The Gates Recreation and Parks Department is offering the following summer sports camps.
A cheerleading camp will take place at the Gates Chili High School Stadium, 1 Spartan Way, Rochester, for ages seven to 18-years-old. Camp will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., July 9-12. The fee for this camp is $55. The Gates Chili High School Cheerleading staff will teach basic, intermediate and advanced skills of cheerleading. The program will focus on preparing for tryouts by working on jumps, partner stunts and tumbling. Sideline chants and dances will also be taught.
A football camp for youth entering grades one through 6, will meet at the Gates Chili High School stadium from 10 a.m. to noon, July 9-12. The fee for this camp is $40. This is a comprehensive camp structured around basic football fundamentals, including passing, receiving, blocking, punting and kicking. Participants should wear shorts, t-shirt and cleats.
A soccer camp will be at Gates Chili High School Soccer Field for boys entering grades nine to 12. Camp will meet from 9-11 a.m., July 9-13. The fee is $40. Technique and decision making will be emphasized. Offensive, defensive and transitional concepts will be taught through creative games and actual scrimmage. Participants should bring cleats, shin guards, a ball and water. Extra balls will be on loan for those needing one.
