Angel Vazquez, 35, of Rochester, has been charged with third-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with lunchtime robbery this past Monday, May 21, at the ESL branch at 518 E. Ridge Road, Irondequoit.
Sgt. Mark Bean, supervisor of the Irondequoit Police Department's criminal investigations unit, said today that tips from photographs that were posted by media assisted in developing leads in the case.
Vazquez was arraigned in Irondequoit Town Court yesterday, May 22, before Judge Joseph Valentino, and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail. He is scheduled to appear back in Irondequoit Court at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, May 29.
Bean said the bank was robbed when a man walked into the ESL branch at 12:48 p.m. Monday, approached a teller station, and handed the teller a note demanding money.
Bean said Monday the man was given a unknown amount of cash and was seen leaving the area on foot.
Irondequoit and Rochester police received several tips based on the photographs provided to media, Bean said, and with that information, a joint investigation was initiated between investigators in both departments.
Bean said it is also believed that Angel Vazquez is responsible for a Canandaigua National Bank robbery May 14 in the City of Rochester, but that investigation is continuing.
