Andrew Caswell, 29, of Jamestown Terrace in Greece was charged with driving while intoxicated after hitting a deer and taking it in the trunk of his car for treatment at Unity Hospital.

Greece police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Hincher Road where a deer was struck around 2:20 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 19. Witnesses at the scene said they saw occupants of the involved vehicle arguing on the side of the road, and left with the deer in the car.

Greece officers later stopped the vehicle, a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue with front-end damage, on Latta Road near Flynn Road. When stopped by police, the driver, Caswell, said he was going to take the deer, which was in the trunk, to Unity Hospital for treatment.

Officers opened the trunk and found a deceased deer. Field sobriety tests showed Caswell had a blood alcohol content of .16 percent, twice the legal limit, and he was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
