Two people are facing charges after sheriff’s deputies say they were growing marijuana inside a home that was used as a daycare.
Jamie Fanton, 29 of Holley, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana, unlawfully growing cannabis and unlawfully dealing with a child.
Jasmine Almeter, 25 of Holley, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana and unlawfully dealing with a child.
Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputies say the arrests stem from an illegal dumping complaint handled by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Officers said they found several garbage bags that contained marijuana and evidence of an indoor grow operation.
When officers executed a search warrant at a home on Taylor Road in the Town of Clarendon, they found and seized an indoor grow room with several marijuana plants, a quantity of dried marijuana, indoor grow equipment and other drug paraphernalia.
According to deputies, four children, ages ranging from two to five years old, were present when the home was searched.
Deputies say Fanton is employed as a peace officer for the New York State finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Office.
Child Protective Services is investigating the incident due to an unlicensed daycare operation at the home and further charges are pending regarding the illegal dumping complaint by the state DEC.
Both were issues appearance tickets and are due back in court on August 27.
