An airport shuttle bus driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, Thursday after an early-morning crash on Airport Road in Gates.
Tonya Arterberry, 45, of Flint Street, Rochester, was not injured in the crash, according to Cpl. John Helfer, spokesman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to Airport Road at 12:30 a.m. to reports of a motor vehicle accident. They foun a 2011 Eldorado shuttle bus, registered to Mapco Auto Parks, that had crashed into a sign post, Helfer said. The shuttle was eastbound on Airport Road when it left the roadway, traveled through a garden, and struck a sign post. There was no damage to the sign post but the shuttle bus had significant front-end damage, Helfer said. There were no passengers on board at the time of the crash.
Arterberry initially claimed that she had swerved to avoid another vehicle but that claim was not substantiated by the initial investigation, according to Helfer.
