Spencerport teen hurt in skiing accident improves

A Spencerport teen who was hurt Friday while skiing at Bristol Mountain Winter Resort has been upgraded to satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, hospital officials said Monday afternoon.

Ontario County deputies said Melissa M. LaCelle, 16, of 1203 Washington St., was taken to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight with a broken arm and a fractured skull after possibly hitting a tree off of the North Star Trail at the resort. LaCelle was skiing with with the Churchville-Chili School Ski Club.

In a statement released by the hospital, LaCelle's family thanked the doctors, nurses and law enforcement personnel who helped care for her.

"We can’t convey how much we appreciate all the help," the family said in the statement.
