Fifty Rochester disability rights activists are traveling to Albany today to take their message to state legislators. They will advocate for the protection of services and supports that allow people with disabilities to live independently in the community.

“We have put forth proposals to save the state $1 billion over five years in Medicaid costs by promoting the independence and integration of seniors and people with disabilities; yet, none of our recommendations were included in the budget to date,” said Bruce Darling, president and CEO of the Center for Disability Rights, a non-profit service and advocacy organization devoted to the full integration, independence and civil rights of people of all ages with all types of disabilities.

Among the issues they will be advocating for are eliminating increases in co-pays and removing the proposed cap on rehabilitation therapies.
