Friends and family of a former Gates Police officer paid their respects at a memorial service Monday.
46-year-old Sung "Sonny" Chung was killed while walking on West Ridge Road in Greece earlier this month, when a driver lost control and hit him.
Officer Chung was well-known, beginning his career with Rochester Police back in 1987 and then moving to Gates Police Department in 1996.
Friends say he was dedicated to his job and this was an emotional day for those closest to him.
Sean Signh, Chung's best friend, said, "Sonny and I met when I was 15 years old/ We grew up together. It's a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."
Chung retired from Gates Police Department ten years ago, after suffering a brain injury following an on-duty crash. A burial service is set for Tuesday.
