Teams of Democrats and Republicans spent much of today auditing Monroe County’s new voting machines to ensure that they worked properly on Election Day.

Monroe County used nearly 800 of the new optical scanner voting machines on Tuesday. State law requires that 3 percent — or 24 machines — be selected at random and audited. The audit is separate from the official canvass or vote count totals.

“So we’ve gone through this process in a pilot program,” said Election Commissioner Peter Quinn. “We’ve done it in the primary, and this is our first, full general election. It’s a very open process, and we’re here to make sure that each and every vote gets counted.”
