Daemen College men’s basketball coach Don Silveri is pleased to announce the signing of Gerald Beverly to a NAIA National Letter of Intent.  Beverly has accepted a scholarship offer and made his commitment official this morning in a brief ceremony.  The 6-7 forward will enroll in classes and join the Wildcats men’s basketball program this coming fall after completing his senior year at Gates Chili High School in the Greater Rochester area, where he has starred for the Spartans and coach Monte Nowden.  In addition to his exploits on the hardwood at Gates Chili, Beverly has expanded his game in the AAU circuit for the Roc City Ballers and coach Al Nash.

“We are very excited to add a player like Gerald to our roster for the next four years,” Silveri said.  “He’s a young man with tremendous upside.  Our staff can’t wait to get to work with him because we believe he has only scratched the surface as far as how good he can become on the basketball court.  Plus he comes to us as a student-athlete of great character who has been highly recommended to us by a number of people.”

Beverly enjoyed a breakout season as a senior this past winter and established himself as one of the premier players in New York State Section V (Rochester area).  He was able to help the Spartans to a 16-5 overall record as well as a 12-2 mark and a second place finish in the Monroe County Division 2 standings.  By averaging 11.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots per game, Beverly also led the Spartans to the Section V Class AA1 Championship Game where they fell to the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets 55-49, despite 19 rebounds from Beverly.

For his efforts, Beverly earned 2nd Team All-Monroe County Division 2 honors and was also named to the Section V Class AA1 All-Tournament Team.  His high school career officially ended when he was named MVP of the Monroe County Exceptional Senior All-Star Game played back on March 12 on his home hardwood at Gates Chili.

“I think we’ve found a great competitor in Gerald,” Silveri added.  “He loves to do the dirty work around the basket.  The presence he will bring to us defensively and on the backboard makes him a great fit for us.  We are proud to welcome him and his parents to the Daemen community.”

Beverly will begin classes at Daemen as a Sport Management major.  He is the son of Gilbert Beverly and Annfurly Beverly, both of Rochester, NY.

Daemen is a four-year, private, nonsectarian, co-educational, comprehensive college in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst, NY.  The basketball program currently competes in the American Mideast Conference and is affiliated with Division II of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
