The Hilton girls lacrosse team defeated the Greece Lightning on Wednesday, giving the Cadets two consecutive wins after dropping two straight to open the season. The 16-3 win marked the second dominant performance for Hilton after losses to Canandaigua and Webster Thomas on back-to-back nights back in March.

The Cadets got off to a fast start and held a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the game behind a pair of goals from both Brianna Kimble and Sarah Johnson. With the Lightning still searching for an offensive rythyhm Hilton used its team speed and solid stick work to control the time of possession. When Johnson added a back-handed goal at the 18:33 mark to push the lead to 7-0, and Kimble followed a minute later with her third score of the morning to run the lead to eight, things were functioning on all cylinders for the Cadets.

“We looked great in warm-ups and really had a lot of energy, and that helped us get off to a fast start,” said Hilton head coach Amanda Golisano. “We came out and controlled possession and played with great teamwork.”

The Lightning got on the board at the 13:36 mark with a goal by Marquelle Fischer, making the score 9-1. They continued to show gain some offensive flow over the next five minutes, limiting Hilton's looks on the offensive end while winning more ground balls. Amanda Falkner and Margot Hickey added consecutive goals just before the 9:00 mark to make the score 10-3, but that was as close as Greece would get.

“On offense, we are going to have to work hard on becoming more of an offensive threat,” said Lightning head coach Laurie Crowley. “We need to be more aggressive on ground balls and take better care of the ball. On defense we had some good communication, but we have to do a better job of keeping them off their spots.”

Hilton held a 13-3 lead at halftime, and with the clock running in the second half tacked on three more goals to claim a 16-3 win. Kimble led the team with six points (5g, 1a), followed by Johnson with five (4g, 1a), Monica Messina with three (1g, 2a), and Danielle Wilkin (2g), Leia Hayward (2g) and Katrina Campbell each with two (1g, 1a). Anai Flanagan (1g), Lexi Graham (1a) and Danielle Endres (1a) each finished as single-point scorers. The victory is the second in a row for the Cadets by more than 13 goals, as they defeated Eastridge 16-2 last week for their first win of the season.

“We played Canandaigua tough and only lost by two, and then played poorly the next night at Webster Thomas,” added Golisano. “The girls have really shown a lot of resiliency early in the season by bouncing back with a lot of hard work, and it has been apparent in our last two games. We had big expectations last year, but we were still pretty young and only in our second year as a varsity program. This year we are more experienced, and we have high expectations again.”

After losing 11 players from last year's team, the Lightning will continue to work hard at finding their team chemistry as they gain varsity experience. They continue their schedule on Monday with a home game against Spencerport, while Hilton returns to their home field on Monday as well as they play host to Brockport.
