ULTILITY RATE REDUCTION PROPOSED FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS

Print Comment
By Jeffrey Arnold
The NY State Senate has proposed a bill that would prohibit an electric utility company from applying demand charges to the commercial rate for a volunteer fire company when that fire company is responding to emergencies occurring during the utility's billing cycle. Volunteer fire companies currently pay a premium rate for electricity based on usage at peak demand periods which are most frequently associated with fire company responses.
