With the last weekend of the Monroe County American Legion baseball schedule upon us, a handful of teams battle for the top spot heading into the district tournament. Through July 10 three teams sit atop the standings as Rayson Miller, Braman and Cottreal Warner all have 46 points with a record of 14-4. Greece sits just behind at 13-5 with 44 points, Ferris Goodridge is in fifth at 10-8 with 38 points, while Robert Shaw and Doud both hold a record of 9-9, good for 36 points. The top four teams make the postseason as an exciting weekend approaches. Below is a recap of games from July 2 - July 10.
Greece
The Greece team finished the week 3-1 and now sit at 13-5 in league play.
The team began the week with a 4-3 win in nine innings over Rayson Miller on July 4. Jake Zimmer pitched all nine innings, allowing only five hits on 84 pitches while allowing zero walks and recording zero strikeouts to improve to 3-2. Frankie Carnevale provided the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Ryan Prevost. Prevost finished the game 3-for-5 with a triple, one RBI and two runs scored, Carnevale was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI and Mike DiStefano went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Taylor Byrne tossed a complete game to lead the team to a 4-2 win over Hiscock Fishbaugh on Friday. Byrne allowed five hits and struck out eight to improve to 3-1 on the season. Max DeNora was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, Prevost was 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI, and Bryne and Dan Curtis each had an RBI single.
Greece wrapped up its week with the split of a double header against Robert Shaw on Sunday.
Down 3-1 going into the seventh inning, the team scored four runs to earn a 5-3 win. Greece started the comeback with four straight walks, followed by a two-RBI double from Byrne to take the lead. DiStefano improved to 5-1 on the mound with a complete game victory as he allowed two earned runs and also provided the insurance run after Byrne’s single in the seventh. Byrne finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to finish as the only player with multiple hits, while Prevost crossed the place twice.
The team’s winning streak came to an end in the night cap as they fell 6-4. Tom Freer was 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored to lead the offense. DeNora was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Prevost was 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double and Byrne was 2-for-3.

Cottreal Warner
The Cottreal Warner team went 3-1 last week, giving the team a season record of 14-4.
The team defeated Brooks Shepard on Independence Day, winning 3-2. Brian Hollander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning to pick up the win. Taylor Michaud came in to get the final two outs to earn the save. Conor McCabe, Logan Harasta and Steven DiNicola each had one RBI in the win.
Kyle McKay allowed one run and three hits over five innings to lead the team to a win over Ferris Goodridge on July 6. McKay helped himself at the plate as he collected three RBI and scored three runs. DiNicola and Michaud each tossed an inning of relief to preserve the win.
Cottreal Warner wrapped up the week with a double header against Rayson Miller, dropping the first game 4-3 before coming out on top 3-2 in the second.
Matt Squilla pitched six strong innings in the first game with his only blemish a three-run home run. Tommy Mastrodonato, Harasta, McKay and Adam Gruttadaro each tallied two hits to pace the offense.
Brendan Jones struck out four over five innings to help the team rebound for a win in the night cap. McCabe led the offense with two hits and one run scored.
