Bright Raven Gymnastics Level 4 Boys Team took first place as a team in two consecutive major competitions held in recent weeks, the Gold Star Invitational in Niagara Falls January 7-8 and the Candy Cane Classic at SUNY Brockport December 9-11. At the Gold Star Invitational, 7-year-old Jake Scherbyn of Gates took first place on the high bar with a 15.40 and second all around scoring 88.30. In the same age group, Justin Ciccone of Greece took first in floor exercise (14.90). In the 8 to 9 age division, Jon LeFrois of Gates took first place on vault (14.40) and third all around (83.90). In the 10 and over age group, Parker Anderson of Chili was first on the parallel bars (14.10) and second all around (85.20). Teammate, Jesse Underwood of Greece was first on vault (14.70) and third all around (84.30). 12-year-old Brian Cannon of Chili competed as a Level 5 gymnast and took first place on the rings (15.30) and 15-year-old Joshua Sokolowski of Greece competed as a Level 6 also taking first on the rings (14.60) and third all around (82.70).
Bright Raven’s Boys Level 4 team was also first at the Candy Cane Classic with Jake Scherbyn winning first all around (87.60) and first place in 5 of the six men’s events: pommel horse (14.5), rings (15.10), vault (15.00), parallel bars (14.50) and high bar (14.30). Justin Ciccone, also age 7, was first on floor exercise (15.00) and second all around (84.50). In the 10 to 11 age division, Parker Anderson captured first all around (85.10) and first in floor exercise (14.80), vault (14.80) and high bar (14.70). Jesse Underwood was first on pommel horse (14.60), first on parallel bars (13.80) and second all around (83.70). In the 8 to 9 year old division, Jon LeFrois placed third all around (84.80).
The Boys Level 6 team took second place as a team at the Candy Cane Classic with Joshua Sokolowski of Greece winning first place on rings (14.10), first on high bar (13.70) and first all around (83.20) in the age 12 and over division. Benjamin Thomas of North Chili was first on vault (14.30) in the 10-11 division. In the Level 5 competition for ages 10-11, Brian Cannon of Chili earned first place all around (86.90) and first in several events: floor exercise (14.60), rings (14.80), parallel bars (14.40) and high bar (14.10).
The Candy Cane Classic was also a State Qualifying Invitational for girls and Bright Raven Girls teams took first place at four different Junior Olympic Levels – Levels 4, 5, 6 and 7. The Level 4 team was first with 10-year-old Elizabeth Ferrari of Spencerport capturing first all around (37.90) and first place in vault (9.55), balance beam (9.80) and floor exercise (9.50). Mya Fisher of Rochester, also age 10, was third all around (37.25). In the 11 and over age division, Lindsay Green of Chili placed second all around (37.95) and teammate Emily Dix of Gates was first on floor exercise (9.475) and third all around (37.375). In the 6 to 8 division, Sidney Sack of Spencerport earned first place on vault (9.725) and second all around (37.35).
The Girls Level 5 Team took first place at the Candy Cane with Katie Mae Thomas of North Chili winning first on beam (9.2) and first all around (34.825) in the 7 to 9 age division. Jada Moore of Spencerport took first place on bars (8.70) and second all around (34.55). In the 11-year-old division, Emma Arnold of Avon was first on bars (9.0), beam (9.6) and first all around (36.875). Megan Zaharkin of Spencerport, also age 11, was third all around (35.325). In the 12 and over age division, Hannah Cubiotti of Spencerport took first place on both balance beam (9.525) and floor exercise (9.75).
The Bright Raven Level 6 Girls Team was first with 11-year-old Keilei Latragna of Hilton winning first on beam (9.425), floor exercise (9.50) and all around (36.325). Savannah Thesing of Spencerport, also age 11, was second all around (36.10). In the 12-year old division, Kristen Godshall of Spencerport was first on vault (9.275), floor (9.00) and all around (36.125). Gabrielle Costner of Gates was third all around (35.35) in the same division. In the 13 and over Level 6 competition, Morgan Vanderhoof of Chili was first on the uneven bars (9.4) and first all around (37.15). Carly Dennison of Greece was first on vault (9.45).
The Level 7 team took first place with Taylor Pohleven of Spencerport winning first on vault (9.525), first on floor (9.40) and first all around (36.675) in the 11 to 12 age division. In the 13-year-old age group, Molly McKenna of Chili was first on beam (9.4) and second all around (34.575). Mackenzie Wilkins of Pittsford was third all around (34.35) and Brooke Adam of Greece was first on floor (9.00). In the 14 and over age division, Raelyn Smith of Hilton took first place in floor exercise (9.3) and second all around (35.50). 10-year-old Madison Conn of Gates earned first place on floor (9.025) and second all around (34.775) in the youngest age division.
In the Level 8 competition, 16-year-old Carly King of Churchville took first place all around (35.40) and first place in every event: vault (9.375), bars (7.85), beam (9.05) and floor exercise (9.125). Kristina Schiffauer of Greece was third all around (31.35) in the same division.
