Scabies is an easily-spread skin disease caused by a very small species of mite according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It's spread by direct contact with infected people, and less often by sharing clothing or bedding. Sometimes whole families are affected.
Parents were made aware of the higher occurence of scabies at the school in a letter sent home Wednesday. School district officials say less than one percent of students at the school have scabies.
